Writing With Paint Bags

My wonderful husband helped me fill these bags the other day with paint! Thank you honey! These are so great because after they are made the kids can use Q-tips or their finger tips to write letters, shapes, etc onto the bags. I would make sure to use really heavy-duty bags so they don't rip especially if they're using a Q-tip because the Q-tips can rip through the plastic. Once you have the bags filled you just tape them onto a piece of poster board and you're ready to go. The poster board helps the letters, shapes, etc show up better. I use them in centers or when I have students who struggle with writing specific letters.

Sorting

We have been working on sorting for the last three weeks. I start our sorting unit out with shapes. It's the easiest thing for my students to sort. These pictures show how two of my students sorted their shapes: by color and by shape. Other things I do for sorting include buttons. Who has read "My Button Box"? It's a great book. You read it to the kids and then give them a handful of buttons to sort. This is much more difficult for them but so great!

5 Senses

This is an idea I got from pinterest. I love pinterest!! Thanks to TheTeacherWife for introducing me to it! But the kids have to draw a picture of something that goes with each of the senses. So there's five sections that say: I see, I hear, I smell, I taste, I touch, and then students draw a picture for each one. It was pretty fun! Higher students can actually write the words that go along with their pictures. Lower students can just write the first letter that their pictures state with.

The Sense of Touch

I love this activity! I send a hand picture home with each of my students and they have to attach something that they like to touch and bring it back with their homework. Then we make a quilt out of it and talk about each one. So much fun!

Back to School!

Well my friends, it's back to school time. This summer just flew by and now it's gone. So sad! There were so many things I planned on getting done before another school year started but I guess they'll have to wait or get done before things get too busy...if they're not already! I've gone back to teaching two sessions of kindergarten (which is full time here in Utah) and I can already tell that it's going to be a hectic (possibly a bit harder) year. I have quite a few students with IEPs and special needs/learning disabilities. I will definitely be searching your blogs and other websites to make this year go a bit easier. I'm also still working on getting my masters which will add to the chaos but just one more year and I'm done! GO ME! I have made my classroom into a Dr. Seuss wonderland for this year and I am so excited about it. I'll have pictures up later this week for you to see and more clipart to copy as well. I just hope you'll bare with me and forgive me if I don't blog as often as I should for the next few weeks. I can tell that this new year is going to be quite the adjustment for me...although I may need a venting outlet so my might here more from me than you really want...we'll see which direction it goes! ;) I hope that all of you are having a wonderful beginning to a new year and here's to some new school year posts!
