FREEBIE! Easter Sight Word Game

Hey Dear Friends,
Here's my newest Freebie! It's a Easter Sight Word Game. I got the idea after playing "Spot It" with my niece the other day. I tried it out with my students today in fact and they loved it. I don't know what sight words you are working on right now, so obviously I chose ones that we've been working on, but I hope that they will work for you.
Have fun!
Love, Bri

Making Leprechauns!

This is one of the best days in Kindergarten! I love making our leprechauns and so do my kids! I usually hate using paints in class because they are just so MESSY! However, for our leprechauns I make an exception because they just turn out so cute. This is a listening activity for my kids, they have to follow my directions in order to end up with a Leprechaun. The instructions I give go something like this:
Write your name at the bottom of your paper
Make  a big square on the top of your paper
Put a long rectangle under that square
Put a line through the square
Make a three leaf clover on the hat (I say make an upside down U three times and add a stem)
To make his beard you want to make it like a cloud
Make a cloud all of the way around
Make an uppercase U for his face
Draw on lips, eyes, and a nose
Then make a rectangle for one arm, another rectangle for the other arm
Make a square for the front of this jacket
Make a line down the square
Add buttons next to the line
Then for the hands, make one bit uppercase U next to a lowercase u without a tail
They'll look like mittens.
Next add two rectangles under his jack to make his pants
Add ovals for the feet

This is an easy way for the kids to understand how to make them and keep them on track.
My morning group I did NOT have them use a black crayon to trace them and they still turned out pretty cute, however my afternoon class did use a black crayon to trace their picture and I think that may have turned out better....

After they are drawn and traced have the kids color them using water color paints. Let them dry and then cut them out, they'll be so CUTE!

Have fun!

President's Day and More

First, I just finished my President's Day Unit. I realize it's a bit late, I've been using parts of it over the last week and will finish it up with my kids next week. If you would like it you can find it here at Teachers Notebook and here at Tpt.

Next, here is a really fun idea I found on pinterest for President's Day. It really didn't take me long to make it, maybe an hour and then I had all of my kids take a picture next to him. Next week we'll do a writing assignment about how tall they are and where they come up to on Pres. Lincoln. Should be fun!!!

Ok, here's a math idea that I used with my kinders the other day to focus on addition. We're going to be starting addition folders soon (where they are timed) and we've been spending a lot of time on just learning the skills. I actually have a really great lesson/idea for it as well that I'll be posting later: Cookie Math. The kids love it! Until I have it finished though, this is another way to teach addition.

The last thing I want to share is: HUG JUGS. These are the containers we used for our Valentine's Day party to take our Valentine cards home. They were WONDERFUL! None of them ripped, lost cards, etc, like many of the paper made ones do. I just had students bring in empty jugs for two weeks and by the end we had enough. I do have to admit that this was not my idea though, I can not take credit for it. The other kindergarten teacher at our school came up with it, and it was perfect! The kids traced their arms and hands on colored paper, cut them out and then glued them around the jug to give them a HUG. Then they decorated them with stickers. So cute!

Happy Birthday To Me! (Another Free Unit!)

Last year I got a wonderful idea from The Teacher Wife, where for her Birthday she gave herself a classroom Birthday party. The kids loved it and had a great time even though technically they were still doing "school" work. Ever since then I've been thinking about what I wanted to do for my birthday (which is coming up on the 26th), and the other day when I mentioned it to my kids they basically jumped out of their chairs with excitement! So, I had a little time this weekend to finally put it all together. I think it's going to be a blast! I've added it to Tpt as a FREEBIE, just click here! You can use it as a birthday celebration for yourself or as a combined birthday celebration for all of your kids Birthdays!

Have fun and Happy Birthday!:)

Valentine Monster Mash FREEBIE!!!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and I thought I'd make a fun nonsense word game for my kids. I actually want to use it next week even though the monsters are holding hearts. I figure it can go for anytime of the year including Valentine's Day. My kiddos are going to be tested on nonsense words at the end of the month and I want them to have some review before Dibels happens.
Just click here to go to my Tpt store and download it for free.

Have fun!

The Witch Stocking Patterns

This was so much fun to do today! Each of my kids made a pattern on a witch's stocking (they could make any kind of pattern they wanted) and then we put them all around a giant witch. I saw this idea on pinterest but they were having the kids make their own witches; we just didn't have the time for that, but I actually think this turned out better. In order for it to make sense, I had to come up with my own poem/saying to go on the inside but I think that it turned out alright. It goes like this:

There once was a crafty old witch who had so many bare legs she didn't know what to do! Then one day that crafty old witch had a witchity thought, and decided that maybe, just maybe she could make those legs up!
"Patterns! Yes, patterns! That's what I'll do!" She cried,
and then she added the patterns to her legs by her sides!

Sorting on Our Johnny Appleseed Hats

So last week we spent quite a bit of time learning about Johnny Appleseed and I knew my kids were dying to make their own Johnny Appleseed pan hats to wear home. However, instead of just making the hats, I turned it into a sorting activity. I gave each child a handful of colored shapes and they had to decide how to sort them. As you can see in this picture, this little boy sorted by color. This way they weren't just doing a fun activity but were also re-enforcing their sorting skills.
