Thanksgiving Friendship Meal

Instead of having a regular Thanksgiving Dinner we do a Thanksgiving Friendship Meal. Over the month of November we spend one week talking about Pilgrims and one week talking about Native Americans. After we have finished that we have a friendship meal, which is what the Pilgrims and Native Americans also had (not our own typical Thanksgiving Dinner). Each of my students bring a can or bag of fruit and we mix them all together in a large bowl. Then each child gets a scoop of the fruit. We also make cornbread together and cook it during recess. That way it's ready to eat when we have our friendship meal. The kids really enjoy this!
